Feedback on Education Goals from 170+ Community Leaders To Date

Last week more than 200 community leaders from across the Greater Fredericksburg area participated in the Rappahannock United Way Kickoff Breakfast at the Fredericksburg Expo Center. If you were there, you know what an inspirational and exciting event it was!

As part of the program, more than 170 people completed a brief survey about their aspirations and goals in the areas of Education, Income and Health. Participants rated goals using the following response categories: top priority, important priority but not top priority, less important as a priority, not a priority or no response.

Top priorities in the area of EDUCATION so far to date include:
  • Improving high school graduation rates (65.3%)
  • Increasing the number of high school graduates who attend college or university (47.6%)
  • Raising the standardized test scores of students (45.3%)
  • Increasing opportunities for vocational or job training (54.1%)
  • Increasing educational opportunities for adults (such as GED programs or mid-career switch educational programs) (50.6%)
  • Making schools safer (45.9%)
  • English fluency for non-English speakers (45.9%)
  • Improvement in community college offerings available in community (49.4%)
  • Improvement in early childhood education programs in community (46.5%)
  • Improvement in elementary education programs in community (44.7%)
  • Improvement in programs for middle/high school youths (47.1%)
  • Improved after school and summer activities for children and youths (42.9%)
  • Character development programs for youths (55.3%)
  • Opportunities for education in improving parenting skills for parents in community (48.2%)
  • Enhanced programs for special needs children (48.8%)
